The Two-Seater Sauvie Sofa

Sauvie is named for Sauvie Island, a small plot of land to be found at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers.  Known mostly for its lush farms and a narrow swath of beaches on its eastern riverfront, on summer days when the berries are ripe and the water is mild, Sauvie offers the perfect retreat for the beleaguered Portlander.  Though there’s no literal connection between the sofa and its namesake, I can think of no greater sense of ease than that to be found on a sultry summer afternoon spent on Sauvie’s shores, shoulder deep in the Columbia, reclining against the gentle push of the current, and idly wondering if my lips are the same impossibly bright color as my blackberry-stained fingertips.

Much like the island, Sauvie is no larger than need be.  A perfect fit for two with a low back and small profile, she’s ideal for any situation where you’re short on space, but would rather not be short on style.  Entirely handmade, Sauvie features a gently curving frame, a sculpted hardwood base, and smartly tailored natural wool upholstery.  Plus it’s just fun to say.  Go ahead… Sauvie Sofa.

Shown here in Maharam’s Divina Melange by Kvadrat #120, this sofa can also be built in a vibrant palette of colors.  All fabrics are traditional 100% wool upholstery felt and swatches are available by request.  For a truly custom option, buyers are welcome to provide their own fabric. The sofa requires 6 yards of upholstery weight fabric with no less than a 54-inch width (please contact me if you'd like to use fabric that has a repeating print, additional yardage and fees may be required.  No leather please).
